Stephanie Cumming
Over the last few years Stephanie Cumming has established herself as one of the foremost performers in the Austrian dance scene. Her collaborations with Chris Haring continue to highlight her desire for transformation on stage.  With her unique physicality and voice she has carved out a niche for herself which extends from the stage to film and back to the dance studio.

Following her classical training Stephanie completed her dance education in 2000 at the University of Calgary and has been living and working as a free-lance dancer in Austria since 2001. She has worked with Johannes Randolf, Tanz*Hotel,  Doris Stelzer,  visual artist Markus Wintersberger as well as Nicole Mion (Calgary) and battery opera (Vancouver).

Since 2003 she has been working together with one of Austria’s foremost choreographers, Chris Haring, and is one of the founding members of his company liquid loft. Her most recent work with Haring was Posing Project A: The Art of Wow which premiered in April 2007 at Tanzquartier in Vienna.  Other works include Running Sushi, kind of heroes, My Private Bodyshop and Fremdkörper which have all toured throughout Europe. She has been described by critics as an “impressively intense”(der Standard, Vienna) and “astonishing” (The Times, London) performer.  In 2004 Haring created the solo Legal Errorist for her, for which she was named “Oustanding Young Dancer” in ballet-tanz magazine.  She also starred in the film version of Legal Errorist (directed by Mara Mattuschka) which continues to be shown internationally, most recently at the Royal Festival Hall, London.  Stephanie also teaches at Tanzquartier in Vienna and was most recently a guest teacher at the University of Calgary.
